Gap in the market is filled

South Wales Echo, Oct 24 2004

A BUTCHER'S shop with a difference has opened its doors in Cardiff.

Pak Butchers in Clare Road, Grangetown, has become the city's first halal shop - and has had a great response from Muslim and Welsh customers alike.

The gap in the market was spotted by Abdul Malik, who owns Pak Foods Limited and already has shops in Bristol and Gloucester.

"There are so many communities here," said Mr Malik.

"We have been really busy and have had a brilliant response, not just from the Muslim community but from English-speakers too.

"Halal meat is to do with the draining of the blood, which makes it taste really fresh."

Pak Butchers, which employs four staff, opened this week at 156 Clare Road.
