The Arabic word "Halal" means fit or proper. When applied to food, the term means fit for consumption according to Islamic law (Shariah). Halal foods and drinks are permitted for consumption by Allah-the Supreme Law Giver. Eating Halal is obligatory on every Muslim.
In the case of halal meat and poultry, Islamic law states: The animal must be slaughtered in a Muslim-supervised factory, the machinery in this factory must be cleansed according to Islamic law. The slaughterer must be a 'mature pious Muslim' and must understand the fundamentals and conditions.
Only healthy animals can be slaughtered and no stunning (electric shock) should take place. Halal meat has various benefits: Firstly, it is trusted to be done by a clean person in clean surroundings. Secondly, the animal will be healthy and fit. Thirdly, the meat itself will have no blood clots within its veins - giving a longer shelf life. Fourthly, if the blood is all drained, as it should be, the risk of blood inherited bacteria from the animal will be very minimal.
We spend time to source only the best, hygenic and non-stunning Halal slaughter houses throughout England, wales, Ireland and Europe. Even though there are some arguments stating that Muslims can eat from stunned animals, as long as the stun is not life-threatening, we prefer to purchase our animals from non-stunning slaughter houses because of the various benefits which are associated with non-stunning operations.
